Jaguar

On 26, Sep 2013 | No Comments | In news / blog | By Layla

So after weeks of hard work, pencil sharpening and origami prototypes here is Rok Predin’s latest piece of work. We made this for the good people at FC Creative as part of their campaign for Jaguar. The brief they gave us was to make a film to celebrate the unveiling of the new C-X17 without actually showing any cars. The idea we came up with was to explore Jaguar’s design philosophy and to explain it in an interesting visual way. This involved a lots of CGI 3d work mixed with more old-school 2d drawn animation which was initially done in Flash then printed out, hand traced and coloured and re-scanned. As well as directing the 3d and 2d teams Rok also composited the piece, giving it a little bit of Predin magic. We had big team on this so it’s great to see everyone’s hard work and long hours pay off.

Psychedelic meandering caravan

We’re going a bit psychedelic-liney-winey at the moment, doing lots of drawing on paper mixed with cool geometrical motion graphics. We’ll show you when it’s done.

The Car Buying Service

On 28, Aug 2013 | No Comments | In news / blog | By Layla

Leeds based agency Propaganda approached us to create a TV commercial to mark the launch of their product.
We brought in the brilliant Pete Mellor to direct this 30 second spot. Filled with humour and energy this new spot is a master class in timing and pace. Spencer Wilson’s beautiful crisp illustrations worked with The Car Buying Service’s compact colour palette to help create a very clear and appealing film. Pete noted “It was great to work with Propaganda, helping them develop the initial story board and whilst it would have been very easy to over-complicate the animation by keeping it simple with a straight forward car journey it kept the message clear” The script was voiced by the brilliant Ade Edmondson, sounding nothing like Vivian from The Young Ones, a blessing for any company based on trust and fairness.
Composer Ivan Arnold created the perfect score while the sound design and mix was by J.M Finch at Fonic. Pedro Lino at Trunk Animation oversaw the whole production.

Animation Magazine Interview

On 06, Aug 2013 | No Comments | In news / blog | By Layla

A few weeks ago we spent the afternoon with the lovely Nadia from Animation Magazine. We droned on about some nonsense and she wrote stuff down. Below is a link to the resulting article. She has made us sound wittier than we are, thanks Nadia!

Back in the Day

On 22, Jul 2013 | No Comments | In news / blog | By Layla

Our uber-prolific director and friend Rok Predin has made a great new film. It is a nostalgic ode to childhood based on his memories of growing up in 1980s Slovenia. In keeping with our aim of getting our directors to produce their own work alongside working on commercial projects we gave Rok two months of studio time to work exclusively on the film.

“It was wonderful to just dive into this project with no constraints and expectations and just enjoy exploring and playing with the software,” said Rok. “As the animatic had already set the rhythm, flow and pace for the film, the two months I had were spent like a painter enjoying the creative process, and like a ‘one man band’ I loved exploring all the various aspects of the films production, from modelling to compositing and editing the final shots together.”

The music is composed by the highly talented Ivan Arnold

cold feet

On 22, Jul 2013 | No Comments | In news / blog, Press | By Layla

Pedro has come up with a great way of combatting this summer heat by using a beer tub left over from our party. Take one large beer tub, fill with icy cold water, place beneath desk, insert feet, try to to be electrocuted. Easy.

On 19, Jul 2013 | No Comments | In news / blog | By Layla

We had a little party in our courtyard last night…… it was great! Loads of lovely people came along, there were ice creams, cocktails, crisps and the odd bit of sparkling repartee. Here’s a snap taken during the screening of our work. Thanks for coming everyone, we are all on a party high! and we will be leaving the bunting up for a few more days.
