weareom “Waste”
On 06, Apr 2012 | No Comments | In news / blog | By Richard
Trunk’s directing collective WeAreOm have just completed a fabulous new film called ‘Waste’. ‘Waste’ came about after WeAreOm had worked on a commercial that incorporated pop-ups, As Director Anton Groves noted “We realised that no one had thought of integrating pop-ups into a real life context, so we had this idea of a film about a wasteful character who has these monsters scattered about his mundane life, consuming all his waste”. Set and filmed in Bucharest the short stars Mihai Stanescu as the wasteful slacker and award-wining actress Ana Ularu as the female lead. But the real stars of the show are the monsters that include Syd who lives in a filing cabinet and Creech the toilet monster that no one should have to deal with after a heavy night. Damian Groves from WeAreOm and Andy Sinboy created the brilliant pop-up monsters and the film was funded by WeAreOm’s production company studioset.tv. The film is to be released on-line at the beginning of May but here is a link
to a trailer of the film

Here’s an edited montage of a lovely job Layla’s just finished directing. We were thrilled to be working with the art director/illustrator Luke Best from the fabulous Peepshow Collective. All we can show you is a montage as this product is not officially launched until september. When you see the final piece with voiceover etc. all will become clear!
Rusko in Slovenia

Well looky here, it’s Rusko from Pomp&Clout’s video for his song “Woo Boost”. We saw it on tv in our hotel in Ljubljana. It’s surreal to see something you’re so familiar with in a new context. Oh yeah and check out that wallpaper.

We’re really excited about this year’s Pick Me Up at Somerset House. It’s a contemporary Art Fair and our friends Peepshow are doing a residency there. As well as exhibiting delicious, nutricious eye treats and mind food Peepshow will be doing a talk, a printing workshop, a collage workshop with Graham Rawle and something called Heavy Pencil with our other old mucker Pete Fowler. Pick Me Up runs until the first of April.

Meet Zagi the squirrel, our favourite purchase from the flea market on our weekend trip to Ljubljana in Slovenia. His goofy smile made us laugh all weekend.

Rapper’s delight

Our director Rok Predin is a brilliant musician, he can play gypsy-swing guitar like a dream. However today you’ll be able to hear him showing off a previously undiscovered talent for gangsta-rap in this evening’s episode of Dirk Gently on BBC4 at 9.00 p.m. Our neighbour Daniel Pemberton does the music for this show and he needed some Serbian hip-hop to be playing in the background of a scene involving some shady Serbs, so he came around and got Rok to scream some Serbian obscenities over a kickin’ beat. Rok says that he is saying VERY rude things.
Duolingo

Here’s Pomp&Clout’s latest nifty film which explains the concept of Duolingo. It’s an online language learning/translation tool where the user simultaneously translates sentences into their own language while learning new vocabulary. Pomp&Clout simple graphics really help clarify a fairly complicated concept. Who’s up for learning a bit of spanish?
Lore&Jun at Animac

Animac Festival invited Lore&Jun to do a workshop with illustration students from EAM. They showed them a lot of experimental animation, discussed movie titles, and did some animation exercises.
Lore&Jun decided to shoot a video about daily moments of an illustrator/animator and use it as baseline so that the students could trace the frames with whatever style they chose. 320 frames were drawn during two and a half days.
The last scene was made with the vast help of Albert Marcet and Gacy Sarubbi.
The students were great and did a beautiful job.
Directed by Lore&Jun.
Illustrated by the students of 1st and 2nd year of EAM, Lleida.
Music by Simon Williams (Sunny Graves).
Featuring lovely Rita.
Inspired by the work of Jeff Scher.
